The brief starts with a small annoying detail : a narrow spot between two pieces of fixed furniture makes it difficult to move around from the kitchen to the dinning room. Digging deeper into the clients' lifestyle, we come to realize that the kitchen should be the heart of this ordinary suburban pavilion.
With this goal, and urban regulations in mind, the project emerges from a sequence of rational decisions:
1. Cut the south-east facade, from dinning space to garage, to open the kitchen on the garden.
2. Create a large terrace for optimal outdoor-living space.
3. Add a one storey wooden structure on the entire length of the south-est facade to create larger, and new spaces.
4. Divide the newly added structure in 3 parts, each being related to a specific space :
- In front of the dinning room, a pergola which can be closed by textile awnings and blinds to bring shade in summer or protect from wind and rain in mid-season.
- Extending the kitchen, the central part is fully glazed with sliding door panels to bring light, views and fluidity.
- In front of the garage, a new small office space is created, with a smaller opening to enjoy proximity with the garden while keeping a more private atmosphere.
5. Organize the new interiors with a single piece of furniture which offers space for storage and display.
